I am very amazed at how many people want to green clean their homes and don't know what to use for cleaning. There are so many things on the market that are labeled green clean, Eco Friendly, Environmental Friendly, but there are very few that are certified under the Green Seal label.

However, it seems to me that all of this labeling, tests and research is really a waste of money. We have had green friendly and environmentally safe products in our grasp for years. Great-grandma and grandma used them and we did not have a government body telling us that they were safe.
 
Have you every checked the ingredients on most cleaners?
 
They are basically ammonia, vinegar or borax based in most instances. It is all the rest of the 'new and improving' that they have done to it that has made it hazardous.
 
If you would like to stick with the tried and true environmental friendly cleaners, make your own using these recipes. You will be shocked at how clean your home is and how much money you are going to save on cleaners.
 
#1 All Purpose Cleaner
½ cup of ammonia
½ of baking soda
½ cup of vinegar
8 cups of HOT water
 
Aluminum Cleaner

½ cup of vinegar
¼ cup of Ivory soap Flakes
½ cup cream of tarter
½ cup of baking soda
 
Great for cooked on Grease on Copper and Brass
½ cup all-purpose flour

½ cup salt

½ cup powdered detergent

¾ cup white vinegar

¼ cup lemon juice

½ cup of HOT Water
 
Vehicle Cleaner
½ Cup of dish soap-I prefer Dawn
½ Cup of powdered clothes soap-I use Ivory
1 gallon of HOT water
 
Pre-soak for your Laundry

½ cup of borax
¼ cup of baking soda
½ cup of powdered clothes soap
2 gallons of Warm water
 
Carpet Cleaner
½ cup of vinegar
½ cup of baking soda
1gallon HOT water
 
Drain Cleaner
½ cup of baking soda-pour down the drain
½ cup vinegar-pour down the drain
Let this sit for 15 minutes and then flush water down the drain.
 
Fireplace Cleaner
2 bars of Naphtha soap, cut into pieces or shaved and then melted in a pot on the stove on low heat.
1 ½ cups of ammonia
3 cups of powdered pumice
1 ½ gallons of HOT water
 
Furniture Polish
3/4 cups of olive oil
1/4 cup of vinegar
 
Furniture Cleaner-removes built in dirt
1 cup of boiled linseed oil
2/3 cups of turpentine
1/3 cup of vinegar
 
Glass Cleaner-strong solution
½ cup of ammonia
½ cup of vinegar
3 cups of water
 
Grease Remover
½ cup of Dawn dish soap
3 Tbsp. Cornmeal
1 Tbsp. glycerin
 
Houseplant insecticide

2Tbsp. Dish soap
2 cups of warm water
Mix and spray plants

 
Jewelry Cleaner
¼ cup of vinegar
¼ cup of ammonia
½ cup of water
 
Liter Box Deodorizer
¼ cup of baking soda mixed into the liter
